The operators of two of the largest casinos in Connecticut have referred to the gains made by the casino during the last December. According to recent reports, betting revenue generated from slot machines and video poker games were lower than those achieved in December 2008.
These tribal casinos run by Indian tribes in the United States.
While this type of casinos do not usually suffer greatly impact of economic crisis (since they have an additional attraction, as compared with typical casinos), the fact is currently experiencing losses on earnings in previous years due to recent tax hikes by the state government.
The Mashantucket Pequot tribe, by the Foxwoods Resort Casino and MGM Grand at Foxwoods, its figures showed last Friday. The reports showed that slots profits during the last December were $ 44.6 million.
This figure stands just under half a million below last year’s numbers (December of 2008 earnings were $ 44.9 million).
The fall at the Mohegan Sun casino run by the Mohegan tribe, was far more noticeable. During December 2009, earnings reached $ 57.1 million. In the same month last year, however, had entered the casino $ 63.1 million.
All tribes in charge of tribal casinos must pay the state monthly, 25 per cent of their earnings in taxes. The Mashantucket Pequots, for example, had to forfeit $ 11.3 million, while the Mohegans paid $ 14.3 million.
